If the combination of contemporary art and nature fascinates you, one of the places that we definitely suggest you visit is the Garden of Daniel Spoerri, located in Seggiano about 20 kilometers from Monte Amiata and not far from the Val d’Orcia.
The garden
The garden of Daniel Spoerri owes its name to the homonymous artist, born in Romania but naturalized Swiss, who, after having lived, among others, in New York, Paris, Dusseldorf, from 1989 began to regularly visit Italy, and in particular Arcidosso and Seggiano. It was in this area that the dancer, painter, choreographer and sculptor decided to create a sort of park-museum, in which to collect both the works he himself made and those made by his friends.
In 1997 the homonymous foundation was born which will also decide to open the garden to the public.
To date, the park covers an area of 16 hectares and has 113 works built by 55 different artists.
The peculiarity of the park lies in the fact that the works are in direct contact with nature. No closed museums, no room to visit, no fixed order and no mandatory route to follow. Children and adults can walk quietly outdoors, enjoying the lush landscape that this side of Mount Amiata offers to its visitors, meeting, in their path, installations and works of art.
The works range from mythology, to Death, to Eros, to astrology (the entire astrological work of Eva Aeppli is exhibited here) but also not disdaining perhaps bold experiments, such as the Soto Sound Sculpture and the “Chambre No.13 ”, A bronze installation that confuses the senses of the visitor. Also present were works by Eat Art, of which Spoerri himself coined the name in 1967 and which, for the less experienced, was born with the intention of launching a critical reflection of everything concerning nutrition, while celebrating rituality of the daily and the uniqueness of each meal.

The park is open to the public from Thursday to Sunday from 10:30 to 17:30. The ticket price for adults is 10 euros, children and students can take advantage of the reduced rate for 8 euros and children under eight are free.
