The Collegiate Church of San Quirico and Giulitta is located in the centre of the town of San Quirico d’Orcia, in “Piazza Chigi”.
The current building was built, in the 12th century, to replace an ancient church. The church has a Latin cross plan with the presence of a single nave and apse chapels. The main portal in Lombard style is supported by two sandstone columns resting on lions. On top of the portal, in bas-relief, is the image of San Quirico.
Inside there is a beautiful fifteenth-century altarpiece with the Madonna and Child, angels, and saints on a golden background, by Sano di Pietro. In the lunette, instead, the Resurrection and the Descent of Christ in Limbo are represented.
